Balcony Releasing is pleased to announce that they will be distributing LOUDER THAN A BOMB to US theatres, beginning late Spring 2011. A Siskel/Jacobs production, LOUDER THAN A BOMB will open New York on May 18 in advance of a roll out to select theaters nationwide.

LOUDER THAN A BOMB is an award winning feature documentary that tells the story of four Chicago high school poetry teams as they prepare to compete in the world’s largest youth slam. By turns hopeful and heartbreaking, the film captures the turbulent lives of these unforgettable kids, exploring the ways writing shapes their world, and vice versa. LOUDER THAN A BOMB is not about “high school poetry” as we often think of it. It’s about language as a joyful release, irrepressibly talented teenagers obsessed with making words dance. While the topics they tackle are often deeply personal, what they put into their poems—and what they get out of them—is universal: the defining work of finding one’s voice.

Winner of more than a dozen film festival prizes, including seven audience awards, LOUDER THAN A BOMB is nothing short of a celebration of American youth at their creative best.

Connie White and Greg Kendall started Balcony Releasing in 2002 to distribute Sundance-winner Daughter From Danang, which went on to garner an Academy Award nomination. Since that time Balcony has distributed a number of important and popular documentary features, including Budrus, Pray the Devil Back to Hell, King Corn, Enlighten Up!, Sir! No Sir!, Al Franken God Spoke and Kurt Cobain About A Son. Information on the forthcoming theatrical openings for LOUDER THAN A BOMB will be announced as dates are confirmed and details become available.
