REVIEW: ‘Saturday Night Live’s’ Low-Key Season Premiere Features Some Comedic (And Political) Promise

Mike O’Brien has released a track from his upcoming sketch comedy album, “Tasty Radio,” on Soundcloud almost a full month prior to its official release. O’Brien has been writing for “Saturday Night Live” since 2009, and he’s tapped into those comedy connections to stack the album with guest appearances from Scarlett Johansson, Jason Sudeikis, Fred Armisen, Seth Meyers, Bill Hader, John Mulaney and more.

The released track, titled “Fun Girls,” is a sketch about a frustrated husband making a late night call to a phone sex hotline. The call gets more and more absurd as he grapples with the automated directory.

As an exercise in comedy writing, “Fun Girls” is impressive in its ability to generate laughs without relying on visual cues and gags, and the talented performances bring home some hilarious moments. “Fun Girls” was written by Mike O’Brien, Marika Sawyer, John Solomon and John Mulaney, and it is performed by Marika Sawyer, Mike O’Brien, Vanessa Bayer, Nasim Pedrad, Cecily Strong, Bill Hader and Fred Armisen.

The full album will be released on October 30.
