Rapper J. Cole has never shied away from sharing his personal and professional pursuits on the big screen, and the recording artist is back at it with his surprise documentary “Eyez,” which chronicles the creation of his latest record. The 40-minute film has just shown up over on Tidal, and provides a compelling look inside Cole’s work and life.

Earlier this year, HBO debuted yet another documentary about the rising star, a concert doc that featured interviews, a behind the scenes look at Cole’s creative process and much more, directed by Scott Lazer. That feature, entitled “Forest Hills Drive: Homecoming” included Cole performing every song off “2014 Forest Hills Drive,” but “Eyez” moves further away from that style to provide something much more intimate. A concert doc this is not.

Cole’s newest LP, “4 Your Eyez Only,” is available for pre-order on iTunes and will be released on December 9.
