Watch: Production Design Shows America’s Bloody Beginnings in AMC’s Revolutionary War Drama ‘Turn’

There is nothing more magical than seeing the past literally come to life, as it does in AMC‘s Revolutionary War drama “Turn: Washington’s Spies.” A new DVD behind-the-scenes Bonus Feature entitled “From Art To Image” is now available to watch.
“Turn” is based on Alexander Rose’s book “Washington’s Spies,” and centers on Abe Woodhull, a farmer living in British-occupied Long Island. Woodhull teams up with a motley group of friends to act as spies, risking their lives in helping George Washington win the war over King George. These men also revolutionized the art of espionage, giving birth to modern tradecraft. Upon visiting the set of his book brought to life, Rose marveled at the 18th century world the film crew “had built out of nothing.” “I had not seen anything like it on TV,” said Craig Silverstein, executive producer.
This bonus video illustrates just how the series crafted gritty Revolutionary War-era locations, dress, and props in their first season. Although everyone looks a little too clean for the Revolutionary War, “Turn: Washington’s Spies” appears to be lively and spectacularly put together. Many details can only be spotted for seconds on screen, but production designers put hours of work and thought into selecting every prop. Authenticity is essential when it comes to recreating a historical time period like this one.
“Turn” returns to AMC on April 13.
