SnagFilms Free Movie of the Week: 'Broke*' Asks If It's Possible Artist Break

“Life happens. It happens in snapshots and in cinematic wonder. It happens in poems and in novel-like prose, but life happens.”

“Is it possible for an artist to
break?” Following on-the-verge artist Will Gray through the recording of
his debut album (featuring production by Grammy Award-winning producer,
T Bone Burnett), “Broke*” chronicles the stories of artists and
executives searching for ways to thrive in the face of today’s music
industry challenges. Even with the endorsement of legendary producer T-Bone Burnett, singer-songwriter Gray fought to break the plane in an industry where reaching the level of independent recognition can be as difficult as making it to the mainstream.

Soon after the film was completed, Gray faced a much greater adversary. After failed treatments for what was originally thought to be a sinus infection, he was diagnosed with cancer. One year later, he passed away.

July 26 marks the one year anniversary of his death. Featuring appearances from Kelly Clarkson, T.Bone Burnett and John Legend, “Broke*” is a documentary that deserves to be seen by anyone who ever wanted a little recognition.
