The Montclair Film Festival (MFF) has announced that Stephen Colbert will host an evening with director J.J. Abrams on stage at the New Jersey Performing Arts Center (NJPAC) in downtown Newark, NJ on November 21. The event, titled “Stephen Colbert and J.J. Abrams: Celebrity Nerd-Off!” promises to be a lively, wide-ranging discussion between the two as they each embark on arguably the biggest projects of their lives.

After his success rebooting the “Star Trek” series and reinvigorating the “Mission Impossible” franchise, Abrams’ latest endeavor is “Star Wars: The Force Awakens,” due for release on December 18. The film is the seventh installment of the “Star Wars” film series, set approximately 30 years after the original trilogy took place.

On September 8, Stephen Colbert will take the reins as host of CBS’ “The Late Show” after previously hosting “The Colbert Report” on Comedy Central for the past nine years. Colbert, a resident of Montclair, has previously hosted Q&As as part of MFF with actors such as Richard Gere and Steve Carell.

“We remain incredibly grateful to Stephen Colbert for his unwavering support of our organization,” said Montclair Film Festival Executive Director Tom Hall. “To be able to host a visionary filmmaker like J.J. Abrams is a dream come true and we could not be more excited.”

The Montclair Film Festival is New Jersey’s leading non-profit film organization. The festival itself takes place annually in May. The one-off “Nerd-Off” will be held in partnership with Omaze.

Tickets for the event will go on sale Friday, September 11 at 10:00am. Visit the NJPAC website for more information.
