‘Wet Hot American Summer: Ten Years Later,’ Sequel to 2001 Film Coming to Netflix In 2017
Though David Wain‘s 2001 satirical absurdist comedy “Wet Hot American Summer” tanked at the box office and received mostly negative reviews, it soon became an absolute cult sensation, with many of its cast members going on to higher-profile work. Last year, Wain teamed up with the entire original cast to bring an eight-episode prequel series “Wet Hot American Summer: First Day of Camp” to Netflix that was very positively received. Today, Netflix announced that it has greenlit an all new eight-episode series “Wet Hot American Summer: Ten Years Later” that will premiere sometime in 2017.

“Wet Hot American Summer: Ten Years Later” will again be set at Camp Firewood but it should not be considered a sequel to the “First Day of Camp” prequel series. Instead, it will be set 10 years after the original 2001 film, so in effect, it can be considered a sequel TV series to the 2001 film. While the internal narrative timeline may be slightly confusing, the comedy is anything but. The series will be written by Michael Showalter and David Wain, the original creative team, and will again be directed by Wain. No casting information has been announced yet.
