Watch: ‘Interstellar’ Trailer Finds Matthew McConaughey, Anne Hathaway and Michael Caine Raging Against the Dying of the Light
The premise behind Christopher Nolan‘s “Interstellar” has been kept under pretty tight wraps. What we do get from this newest trailer, however, is a bit more background thanks to even more footage from the film.
“We used to look up at the sky and wonder at our place in the stars,” McConaughey’s character says. “Now we just look down and worry about our place in the dirt.” The dirt, it seems, is a very prominent feature in this latest trailer, with images of catastrophe, clouds of dust, uncontrollable wild fires, and swarming winds overtaking Earth’s human population.
And what is that final image just before the title appears? Could it be a tiny Earth threatened by an overpowering, possibly exploding sun? Though we don’t know what exactly is putting the planet in danger just yet, we do suspect the question McConaughey asks of Michael Caine, “How long will I be gone?” doesn’t have an answer. Caine’s voice over reciting Dylan Thomas’ “Do Not Go Gentle Into That Good Night” makes the uncertainty of the film all the more poignant.
