Watch: Experience the Existentialism of Violence in Exclusive ‘Violencia’ Trailer

In this exclusive trailer from Colombian film “Violencia” viewers are given a sneak peek into the lives of three different men and how violence affects each of them them. When describing his film, director Jorge Forero said it is “a film about the existential experience of violence.”

“Violencia” does not simply just tell a story, Forero uses three archetypes that represent hundreds of people in similar situations. 

The official synopsis reads: “A man in chains, another younger man who dreams of belonging, and a militant from an armed group forced to commit acts of cruelty he doesn’t believe in are all trapped in a circle of violence they don’t understand. As the film’s three successive stories unfold, they bring three separate, totally unique faces to the tragic reality of war. The characters, each of them voluntary and involuntary cogs in a mechanism bigger than themselves, reveal their greatness or poverty in the ‘minimal’ tasks they perform in order to survive. From out of this at times macabre poetry of the everyday and the irrefutable truth in details, we discover a country whose social body is sick and wounded, and yet continues to seek happiness, dream, and love.”

“Violencia” will be presented by the Festival Internacional de Cine de Cartagena de Indias in Colombia, Mexico, Sao Paulo, Lima, Santiago and Belgium on October 23. More information can be found at the film’s website.
