Watch: 'Exodus: Gods and Kings' Trailer Proves Ridley Scott is After His Next 'Gladiator'

It’s been quite a few years since Ridley Scott’s last historical epic. After the Russell Crowe star-making “Gladiator” took home Best Picture at the Oscars in 2001, Scott dipped his toe into religious history once again with 2005’s disappointing “Kingdom of Heaven.”
His next effects-heavy saga is “Exodus: Gods and Kings,” based on the biblical story of Moses freeing the Jews from the clutches of the Egyptian Empire. The film has been laden with controversy as a result of Scott’s casting of white actors in prominent Egyptian roles. Will that controversy be enough to keep audiences away, or will the incredible-looking special effects be enough to draw people to the theater?

The gorgeous look of the film will no doubt earn it some nominations for cinematography, special effects and editing. The only question that remains is: can “Exodus: Gods and Kings” be another “Gladiator”? Or will it be the next “Kingdom of Heaven”? Check out the trailer below:
