READ MORE: First Reviews of ‘Chi-Raq’ Say It’s Spike Lee’s Most Exciting Movie in Years

Spike Lee‘s politically-charged “Chi-Raq” is earning the director some of his best reviews in over a decade, and now Amazon Studios and Roadside Attractions have released a new 90-second trailer, in addition to two clips that tease the powerhouse screen presence of lead Teyonah Parris and the film’s rap-infused screenplay.

Co-written with Kevin Willmont, the new Spike Lee joint is a modern day adaptation of Aristophanes’ ancient Greek play “Lysistrata.” Parris stars as the eponymous character, who reacts to the murder of a child by a stray bullet by organizing a group of women against the ongoing violence in Chicago’s Southside. In order to make the gangs put down their guns, Lysistrata begins a boycott that finds the women remaining abstinent.

Featuring a star-studded supporting cast — Nick Cannon, Wesley Snipes, Jennifer Hudson, D.B. Sweeney, Angela Bassett and John Cusack are all key players — and a Greek chorus in the form of a lively Samuel L. Jackson, “Chi-Raq” has all the makings of an early Spike Lee movie. Check out the new trailer and clips below.
