“The Rider,” “Brigsby Bear,” and “The Little Hours” all have something in common: They were shot on the ARRI AMIRA. Now the renowned camera company is adding a new tool for independent filmmakers: ARRI Look Library, a collection of 87 looks that come in in three different intensities for use in ARRI Mini and AMIRA cameras.

A new software update that requires a license, the looks belong to nine themed groups: application, black-and-white, contrast, environment, film, period, season, special, and tinted. It’s not unlike using different film stocks — or, for an even more contemporary example, Instagram filters — for an ARRI camera. The idea is to bring on-set look management to all productions, not just those with the highest possible budgets. Coloring dailies for your editor and quick turnarounds are often difficult. That’s where the Look Library comes in.

Cold blues, desert yellows, and every aesthetic in between are included: pastels, day for night, retro, saturated, autumn, and more.

All AMIRA Premium and ALEXA Mini cameras purchased after May 1, 2017 will already have the ARRI Look Library license key installed. An overview of all 87 different looks can be found at the Look Library website as well as on the iOS app.
