Exclusive: Rooftop Films Announces Piper-Heidsieck Feature Film Grant

At Saturday night’s showing of Sundance hit “A Girl Walks Home Alone At Night,” Rooftop Films announced the Piper-Heidsieck grant, which is one of eight grants Rooftop will give out this year.

The grant, which is a $10,000 cash grant prize, will be given to one Rooftop alumni filmmaker who is in the production stage of an independent feature film.

“Champagne Piper-Heidsieck is proud to partner with Rooftop Films,” Senior Brand Director for Piper-Heidsieck Romain Pianet said. “Celebrating its 21st year as the official champagne of the Cannes Film Festival, as well as a recent collaboration with American Cinemateque based in Los Angeles, Piper-Heidsieck has a strong history in supporting cinema. We felt it a natural fit to partner with a unique and supportive organization such as Rooftop Films, which regularly makes bold choices in its selection of films, filmmakers and screening locations.”

Throughout its existence, Rooftop has awarded grants to filmmakers such as Lucy Walker (Oscar-nominated short documentary “The Tsunami and the Cherry Blossom”), Sean Durkin (“Martha Marcy May Marlene”) and Benh Zeitlin (“Beasts of the Southern Wild”).

Also at the event to present an award were Anne Hubbell and Amy Hobby of Tangerine Films. Prior to Rooftop’s screening of “A Girl Walks Home Alone at Night,” the duo presented the film’s director Ana Lily Amirpour with a grant from The Juice Fund. Tangerine Entertainment is a production company and community builder for films by women directors. Crowd sourced from tax deductible donations, The Juice Fund acknowledges and supports the work of first or second time feature filmmakers at various US festivals. The prize includes a $1,000 cash award.
