‘I Origins’ and Diego Luna’s ‘Cesar Chavez’ Round Out Raindance Film Festival Lineup

Raindance Film Festival has released their 2014 lineup. The 22nd incarnation of the festival will be held in London from September 24 through October 5. With over 100 feature length films, 150 shorts and 40 industry events, Raindance is Europe’s largest Indie film festival.

This year, Raindance makes a major change by grouping feature films by mood rather than genre. The categories are based on seasonal tone — spring, summer autumn or winter. Documentaries, on the other hand, will primarily focus on two global issues:  conflict in the Middle East and women’s rights in Africa.

The festival will open with a smattering of big names, courtesy of science-fiction drama, “I Origins,” which features Michael Pitt (“Boardwalk Empire”), Archie Panjabi (“The Good Wife”) and Brit Marling. The festival closer is the Dutch noir thriller “Wolf.”

The Raindance awards jury includes Andrew Scott (“Sherlock”), Alice Lowe (“Sightseers,” “Hot
Fuzz”) and Amy Hubbard (casting director for “Homeland” and “24”). The international program includes Mexican film “Cesar Chavez,” directed by Diego Luna and starring Wes Bentley, America Ferrera and John Malkovich.  Also included among the international screenings is Asia Argento’s latest feature “Misunderstood,” starring Charlotte Gainsbourg.
