‘Hunt for the Wilderpeople’ Trailer: Taika Waititi’s Comic Adventure Film Releases New Footage — Watch
From director Taika Waititi (“What We Do in the Shadows”) comes his latest film, “Hunt for the Wilderpeople.” Based on the book by Barry Crump, “Wild Pork And Watercress,” the film follows the story of an orphaned Ricky, who heads off to the forest with his foster uncle, Hec, after he learns that he might be shipped to another home. A national manhunt ensues when they try to go into hiding and must face being found and torn apart. Watch the latest U.S. trailer above.
“Hunt for the Wilderpeople” stars Julian Dennison, Sam Neill, Rima Te Wiata, Rachel House, and Oscar Kightley. The hilariously, heartwarming tale hopes to remind viewers about the journey that growing up is at any age and those who help along the way.

It was first premiered at the 2016 Sundance Film Festival which made some decent buzz and was picked up by The Orchard for a deal of just under $2 million.The comedy-adventure film first opened in New Zealand in March, breaking box office records over its opening weekend. According to a report from the New Zealand Herald, “Wilderpeople” set a new opening weekend record with $1.3 million.
The film will hit U.S. theaters June 24.
