“Frankenstein” lives to see another day.

The latest adaptation of the horror classic, written and directed to great acclaim by Bernard Rose (“Candyman”), has been picked up from Summerstorm Entertainment for U.S. distribution by Alchemy. Film House Germany announced the news.

The film, which stars Xavier Samuel, Carrie-Anne Moss and Danny Huston, had its world premiere at the Brussels International Fantastic Film Festival. After being met with enthusiastic response, Rose was presented with the Golden Raven Award, the festival’s grand prize.
This version of “Frankenstein,” is set in present day Los Angeles. Told entirely from the perspective of The Monster, the film contends with his hostility and aggression as he comes to grips with the horrific nature of humanity, and the violence of those that made him.
On confirming the sale, producers Gabriela Bacher and Heidi Jo Markel said, “Alchemy is the perfect partner to bring this modern take on a timeless story to American audiences. Alchemy’s acquisition is testament to the worldwide demand and hunger for new, contemporary visions and well-crafted filmmaking – audiences have never seen a monster quite like this.”
