Radiohead and ‘High-Rise’ Director Ben Wheatley Debut ‘Ful Stop’ Short Film — Watch

It’s quite the time to be alive if you’re both a cinephile and a Radiohead fan. After teaming up with Paul Thomas Anderson for their full-length “Daydreaming” music video and releasing their ninth studio album “A Moon Shaped Pool” at the beginning of May, the band has been spotlighting individual tracks from the record each Friday in a series of vignettes directed by some of the best indie and foreign film directors working today. Last week, it was “The Lobster” director Yorgos Lanthimos who executed a strange Radiohead vision, and this week it’s genre master Ben Wheatley‘s turn.
The vignette, which highlights the song “Ful Stop,” begins with the shot of a hand being dragged across the ground, as if a dead body is being moved. But one important cut and some clever effects work reveal that not all is what it seems. Wheatley showed off a graphic visual sense in his last film, the skyscraper thriller “High-Rise,” and even though he only has one real shot to make this vignette stand out, he more than does the job. The showcase image here is bound to give you a chill. It’s weird enough to be funny, but also deeply strange enough to be scary.
“High-Rise” is currently available on VOD platforms. The director’s next film, the crime drama “Free Fire,” stars Armie Hammer and Brie Larson and will be released this fall by distributor A24. Watch the “Full Stop” vignette below.
