Will We Finally See VOD Numbers? Radius-TWC Takes Step the Right Direction.

As the film industry continues to call for distributors to provide transparency into VOD numbers, Radius-TWC has taken a second step in the right direction, releasing numbers for its recent documentaries.

Deadline reported on the numbers for Radius-TWC documentaries “The Unknown Known” and Academy Award-winning “20 Feet from Stardom.” The company recently released Mike Myer’s “Supermensch: The Legend of Shep Gordon” and Errol Morris’ “The Unknown Known.”

While “Unknown Known,” which was released theatrically in early April, earned nearly $270K in its nine week theater run, according to figures Radius-TWC supplied to Deadline, the film earned an additional $1 million on VOD platforms. “20 Feet from Stardom” earned $1.3 million on VOD platforms on top of its $4.945 million theatrical gross in its 52-week run.

This isn’t the first time that Radius-TWC has released VOD numbers. Last year, the company provided some data related to “Man of Tai Chi” for Cinetic Media’s “Multi-Screen Gross.”

Last year, producer John Sloss released the VOD numbers for “Escape From Tomorrow,” and called on other distributors to release their VOD numbers. At the same time, Sloss’ Cinetic Media introduced a new statistic in film reporting which they dubbed Multi-Screen Gross. Though they said at the time that the new metric would be posted every Monday on the website of Cinetic’s sister company FilmBuff, the site hasn’t been updated much since then and no other distributors (aside from Radius-TWC) have shared their numbers.

Let’s hope that will soon change.
