‘Blade Runner 2049’ Behind-the-Scenes Video: Ryan Gosling Offers New Details About the Much-Hyped Sequel — Watch
If you count yourself among “Blade Runner’s” many fans, you’re about to be envious of Kim Taylor Bennett. The Vice correspondent visited the set of “Blade Runner 2049” for a behind-the-scenes look at Denis Villeneuve’s much-hyped sequel to Ridley Scott’s sci-fi classic, revealing new details in the process. Watch below.
“It’s by far my longest shoot of my life,” says Villeneuve of the protracted production process; Bennett was there on day 86 of 96. “It’s not every day in your life that you have the chance to work with props or vehicles or great actors like that, so I feel blessed.” Bennett also speaks to production designer Dennis Gassner, who was tasked with simultaneously remaining true to the original film’s vision while also providing his own unique update to it; what we’ve seen of the film so far suggests he succeeded.
Harrison Ford, Ryan Gosling, and Ana de Armas appear as well, though they’re barred from saying much about their characters — and, unlike some of Ford’s other interviews about his work, he actually appears to enjoy discussing “Blade Runner 2049.” Asked whether he and Scott are still arguing about whether or not Deckard is a replicant, the actor says they’re not — but he can’t reveal what they decided.
Robin Wright, Jared Leto, Barkhad Abdi, Mackenzie Davis, and former WWE Champion Dave Bautista round out the film’s impressive ensemble cast. Warner Brothers will release “Blade Runner 2049” in theaters on October 6.
