For its latest video, College Humor has taken on awards season. Less a typical video from them and more a PSA, it comes as part of truTV’s “Adam Ruins Everything” and opens with the eponymous host posing as an award presenter onstage. “And the best movie of the year is…not determined by this award,” he says before launching into a tirade about how money and other perks — gift bags, For Your Consideration campaigns — influence the outcome of the Oscars and other major awards shows.
“They’re not quite bribery,” this Adam explains, “but they’re close.” He and his co-stars then run through the billboards, parties and other forms FYC blitzes take on, reserving special attention for the Golden Globes — a gala hosted by the 87-member Hollywood Foreign Press Association, whose susceptibility to awards campaigns has come under scrutiny in the past.
