'Star Trek' TV Show Will Start Filming Toronto This Fall

This fall, the new “Star Trek” TV series will boldly go where many have gone before: Toronto, our friendly neighbor to the north’s most populous city. The news was confirmed by CBS TV Studios on Twitter.

Bryan Fuller will serve as producer/showrunner, which is good news for anyone who enjoys quality TV but potentially not-so-great news for those who like their favorite shows to last: “Hannibal” ran for three seasons, “Dead Like Me” and “Pushing Daisies” for two and “Wonderfalls” for only one. All series had small but devoted fanbases, which likely won’t be a problem for “Star Trek” — it’s already one of the most successful sci-fi franchises of all time.

Fuller is currently at work on “American Gods” for Starz as well, though the two shows aren’t expected to conflict with one another. “Star Trek” will premiere early next year with a pilot episode airing on CBS, while all subsequent first-run episodes will be available exclusively on CBS All Access.
