African elephants are dangerously nearing closer to extinction due to poaching for the international ivory trade. Richard Ladkani and Kief Davidson’s new Netflix documentary, “The Ivory Game,” shines light on the sinister underbelly of ivory trafficking and the people who are wiping out elephant populations.

Executive produced by Leonardo DiCaprio, the filmmakers went undercover for 16 months with a crack team of intelligence operatives, undercover activists, passionate frontline rangers and tough-as-nails conservationists, to infiltrate the corrupt global network of ivory trafficking.

“Are we really going to allow the biggest mammal on earth to disappear,” says a man in the new trailer released by Netflix. “Traders in ivory actually want extinction of elephants. The less elephants there are, the more the price rises,” says another.

Eric Kohn wrote in his B+ review that the documentary is “a shocking look at an underground marketplace,” adding, “‘The Ivory Game’ may be a harsh wakeup call to anyone concerned about the future of the largest land mammal, but it’s also a keen evaluation of the efforts being made to correct the situation.”

“The Ivory Game” will be released on Netflix and in theaters in New York and Los Angeles on November 4.
