Oregon’s Dazzling New Tourism Ad Would Make Hayao Miyazaki and Studio Ghibli Proud — Watch

Oregon's New Tourism Ad Makes Hayao Miyazaki and Studio Ghibli Proud

You wouldn’t be wrong if you said watching Travel Oregon’s new 90-second tourism commercial brought back the feeling of watching “Spirited Away,” “My Neighbor Totoro,” or any other legendary Studio Ghibli feature. The advertisement, titled “Only Slightly Exaggerated,” is an eye-popping display of animation that has the kind of limitless imagination that defines the works of Hayao Miyazaki.

While the commercial doesn’t include any direct references to Ghibli’s filmography, so much of the ad feels inspired by the studio’s great works. As Entertainment Weekly already pointed out, the woodland setting recalls the spirit forest in “Princess Monokoe,” while both a walking animated caterpillar and the sight of two children riding a giant rabbit recalls the iconic Catbus from “My Neighbor Totoro.”

“Only Slightly Exaggerated” is written and produced by Wieden + Kennedy, animated by Psyop & Sun Creatures Studio, and scored by Oregon Symphony.
