Rick and Morty
Adult Swim

Justin Roiland and Dan Harmon‘s animated sci-fi series “Rick and Morty” follows the high-concept adventures of an alcoholic genius scientist, Rick, and his naïve, nebbishy grandson, Morty (both voiced by Roiland). The series has garnered widespread critical acclaim for its madcap imagination, dark humor, and its existentialist perspective. Aside from their series, the “Rick and Morty” team also excel at improvisation, evidenced by Roiland and Harmon’s respective podcasts – “The Grandma’s Virginity Podcast” and “Harmontown” – and the cast’s improv backgrounds. Now, Roiland, Harmon, Spencer Grammer, who plays Morty’s older sister Summer, and writer Ryan Ridley improvise a mini-episode of the series for New York Magazine. Watch it below.

Dan Harmon is best known for creating and producing the cult NBC sitcom “Community,” about a group of misfits who attend Greendale Community College, originally starring Joel McHale (“The Soup”), Gillian Jacobs (“Love”), Danny Pudi (“The Tiger Hunter”), Yvette Nicole Brown (“The Odd Couple”), Donald Glover (“Atlanta”), Ken Jeong (“Dr. Ken”), Jim Rash (“The Descendants”), and Chevy Chase (“Fletch”). The series was known for its frequent use of meta-humor, self-referentiality, pop culture references, and expert film/TV parodies. It lasted five seasons on NBC before shifting to Yahoo! Screen for its sixth and last season.

Besides voicing the titular characters on “Rick and Morty,” Justin Roiland voices Earl of Lemongrab on “Adventure Time,” and previously voiced Oscar on the Disney Channel’s series “Fish Hooks” and Blendin Blandin on “Gravity Falls.”
