Michael Moore Recalls His O.J. Simpson Post-Murder Trial Interview That Will Never Be Released
Michael Moore sat down with Seth Meyers on Monday night’s “Late Night” where, aside from recalling meeting Donald Trump for the first time, he talked about how he landed O.J. Simpson’s first post-murder trial interview.
“Just shortly after he was found not guilty on the trial, I was going to do this pilot,” said Moore, talking about his late-night talk show he had planned at Fox. “Basically I got his number and I called him up, and I asked him if he would come on my talk show. He said, ‘Yeah I’ll do it.’ So I got the first interview with him after the trial.”

Other guests on Moore’s show that night were Jon Stewart, Kevin Smith, Molly Shannon, and Sheryl Crow performed. But when Moore introduced Simpson, they didn’t believe it was him.
“He comes out and the audience thought it was an actor. Like we were doing a comedy bit,” he recalled. “He sits down and they realized after a while [that it’s him]… They start booing. The audience starts booing, a third of the audience got up and walked out. I just kept a straight face and said, ‘I don’t know why they’re [booing], it’s probably me. Something I did, so don’t take it personally.’ I talked football with him for four or five minutes.”

But that wasn’t all they talked about. After talking sports for a few minutes, Moore finally asked the big question, “Did you do it? Did you kill her?”
According to Moore, their talk went on for 40 minutes. Unfortunately, Fox decided not to go forward with his late show and the footage was never released. Moore did add that the interview was so compelling that Fox asked if they could release it as a special, but Moore didn’t feel right about doing it.
“It felt exploitive,” he said. “So I put it in the vault… No one has ever seen it.”
