A new full-length trailer for “The Assassin,” now with English subtitles, is as enthralling as it is cinematically beautiful. The drama earned director Hou Hsiao-Hsien the Best Director prize at the Cannes Film Festival earlier this year.
The story follows a young exiled girl trained to assassinate corrupt officials in 9th century China. After she is tasked with killing her cousin–to whom she previously had been betrothed–she must choose between her mission and her heart. Aside from an intense story of romance, violence and loyalty, the cinematography of “The Assassin” appears both meticulously crafted and expertly executed, with gorgeous results.
Watch the trailer above. Well Go Entertainment plans to release the film in the U.S. soon, with no release date set yet.
