Acclaimed Iranian writer-director Rafi Pitts helms “Soy Nero,” which is set to premiere at the Berlin International Film Festival early next week. The international drama has just been selected to compete for the Golden Bear.

“Soy Nero” follows 19-year-old Nero, an illegal Mexican living in the U.S., as he joins the army to obtain a shortcut to citizenship. Taking on way more than he previously thought, Nero fights to find his identity, obtain a nationality and stay alive.

Pitts’ film makes its international debut on February 16, and the Golden Bear winner will be announced on February 20.
