Rooster Teeth make animated shows. They record podcasts. They broadcast game shows. They’ve filmed a feature-length movie. And they’re now premiering their first dramatic live action series “Day 5.” It seems like they’re doing everything, and yet, there’s more. The diverse content creators at the Austin-based company are delving even further into the realm of documentaries with their third of the kind, “The World’s Greatest Head Massage: An ASMR Journey.”

Similar to many of their films and shows premises, which came out of simple conversations on their weekly podcast, this film started with Chief Creative Officer Burnie Burns and Creative Director Gavin Free’s shared fascination for the phenomenon of ASMR, or automated sensory meridian response, an experience of a relaxing sensation triggered by many things such as whispered voices. The two shared similar triggers for the experience and bonded over a YouTube video of masseuse Baba, famed for his “world’s greatest head massages.” In classic Rooster Teeth fashion, Burns and Free decided to travel to India for this massage to figure out whether ASMR is, as Free points out, “scientifically a load of crap” or if there’s something to it.
