Sundance Kicks Off With An Epic Sex Scene, Courtesy of ‘The Bronze’
The Sundance Film Festival has played host to some memorable sex scenes over the years, but none quite as athletic and jaw-dropping as the one that screened last night during the world premiere of “The Bronze,” Melissa Rauch’s passion project, which she wrote, co-produced and stars in.
In “The Bronze,” directed by Bryan Buckley (who has over 50 Super Bowl commercials to his name), the “Big Bang Theory” star plays Hope Annabelle Greggory, an extremely foul-mouthed Olympic bronze medalist gymnast who can’t let go of her former glory. When she’s forced into training a promising gymnast (Haley Lu Richardson), following the passing of her former coach, Hope does everything in her power to sabotage the girl’s chances at making it to the Olympics.
The show-stopping sex scene, between Hope and her rival and Olympic recruiter Lance Tucker (“Captain America” star Sebastian Stan), comes late in the movie and it’s inarguably the highlight of Buckley’s film, which is laugh out loud funny throughout. The two former gymnasts perform several herculean positions over the course of the extended sequence that are too NSFW to truly do justice to in print. Trust us when we say that you’ve never seen anything quite like it.
“As far as the sex scene, you write what you know,” Rauch joked during the film’s post-screening discussion, standing next to her husband Winston Rauch, who co-wrote the film with her.
“We just wanted to show people what goes on in our bedroom and we didn’t know there was anything special or unusual about it,” he added.
Rauch revealed that both she and Stan had body doubles for some of the more revealing shots. “She’s a wonderful girl,” Rauch said of her doppelganger, “and so talented, and very free with her body. At the end of the day, she was like, ‘Are you gonna tell people that’s you or me?’ I said, ‘Whatever you want,’ and she went, ‘Well, my dad’s a preacher, so…'”
For his part, Stan admitted he was “really, really happy” to do the scene. “I felt in very safe hands, in every sense of the word.”
“My hands are very safe,” Rauch said.
