Paul Verhoeven’s controversial and provocative thriller, “Elle,” premiered at the Cannes Film Festival in May to universal acclaim for its leading actress, Isabelle Huppert. Called Verhoeven’s best film in years, “Elle” could be a potential contender for Best Foreign-Language film. The “Basic Instinct” helmer’s thriller is thought-provoking and will likely ignite heated debates between viewers who will try to figure out Michèle’s reasoning for her actions.
Huppert, who could have a shot at the Best Actress Oscar nomination, stated at Cannes that she’s not worried that the film might offend people because it “shouldn’t be seen as a realistic story” instead it’s “a particular story about this woman as an individual, not women in general.”
Viewers can debate on their own when “Elle” gets released in theaters on November 11.
