Here’s your daily dose of an indie film in progress — at the end of the week, you’ll have the chance to vote for your favorite.
In the meantime: Is this a movie you’d want to see? Tell us in the comments.
Logline: Two best friends are forced to figure out who they are when their friend “breakup” leaves them adrift in the adult world.
Elevator Pitch: What happens when your best friend isn’t your best friend anymore? “Ex-Best” is a comedy about two women having to forge their individual identities after their friend “breakup” leaves them adrift in the adult world. With thirteen 4-minute episodes, “Ex-Best” uses the short form to tell a series narrative that shines a different light on female friendship. It’s funny, awkward, and a little sad. “Ex-Best” is a show about the friend you thought you had.
Production Team:
About the Film: Frustrated by a lack of meaningful female content that didn’t revolve around men and dating, we (longtime friends Monica Hewes and Diana Gettinger) created “Ex-Best” as a way to explore the nuances of female friendship. We were fascinated by the social phenomenon of the “friend breakup” and its aftermath, so we gathered a crew of women filmmakers and set out to make a series you could sneak in between work emails or binge during lunch. The result is a show about a topic that any gender can relate to: friendship.
Current Status: Fundraising for post-production.
