‘Carne y Arena’ Trailer: Alejandro G. Iñárritu and Emmanuel Lubezki Make You Live the Immigrant Experience

Neither Alejandro González Iñárritu or Emmanuel Lubezki have any films scheduled to premiere in 2018, but that doesn’t mean you can’t see new material from the “Birdman” and “The Revenant” Oscar winners. Their virtual reality project “Carne y Arena” can be experienced at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art through July 1, and now the installation makes it debut in Washington D.C. this week.

Iñárritu and Lubezki’s friend and fellow Oscar winner Alfonso Cuarón marked the start of the project’s Washington D.C. run by sharing an intense teaser trailer for the project and encouraging President Trump to go check it out. “Carne y Arena” immerses the viewer into the lives of a group of immigrants who are led by a coyote across the Mexican border into the U.S. until they are stopped by the border patrol.

“Carne y Arena” premiered to instant acclaim at the Cannes Film Festival last year and went on to earn a Special Achievement Academy Award. Watch the trailer below.
