‘Vox Lux’ First Footage: Natalie Portman Is a Glam Pop Star Ready For a Comeback — Watch

If Natalie Portman‘s Oscar-winning performance in “Black Swan” taught moviegoers anything, it’s the actress is willing to go an extra mile when it comes to transforming into her onscreen characters. “Vox Lux,” the Portman-starring music drama hitting the fall festival circuit, finds the actress tackling an emotionally challenging role that is already earning comparisons to “Swan.” Vanity Fair has debuted a short teaser for the movie which provides the first footage from the movie.
“Vox Lux” stars Portman as Celeste, an international pop star who must confront her legacy in the hours leading up to a major concert. Celeste is the survivor of a violent tragedy and first gained attention for her music after she performed a song at a memorial event (“The Killing of a Sacred Deer” star Raffey Cassidy plays the character as a teenager). Years later, Celeste tries to rebound from scandal by mounting a comeback with an ambitious album and concert. The supporting cast includes Jude Law as Celeste’s manager and Stacey Martin as her sister.
While the involvement of Portman makes “Vox Lux” one of the bigger titles of the fall season, the drama also marks the return of Brady Corbet behind the camera. The indie actor made his directorial debut with “The Childhood of a Leader,” which won him best director honors in Venice’s 2015 Horizons sidebar. Corbet is returning to Venice with “Vox Lux,” where the movie will world premiere in competition. The film will also screen at TIFF.
“Vox Lux” currently does not have a U.S. distributor. Sia wrote original music for the movie, while Scott Walker handled the film’s original score, part of which is featured in the clip. The first footage can viewed on Vanity Fair’s official website here.
