Watch: Carey Mulligan Smolders On and Off-Screen 'Far from the Madding Crowd' Trailer

Fox Searchlight has dropped a trailer for Danish filmmaker Thomas Vinterberg’s screen adaptation of the iconic Thomas Hardy novel, “Far from the Madding Crowd,” which stars Carey Mulligan, Matthias Schoenaerts, Michael Sheen, Tom Sturridge and Juno Temple.

The story centers on a young woman’s relationships with three vastly different suitors. Mulligan stars in the role of Bathsheba Everdene; Schoenaerts, Sheen and Sturridge play her love interests. The tragic character of Fanny Robin is played by Temple.

Searchlight’s adaptation marks the fourth time Hardy’s novel has been brought to the big screen. The trailer, which you can watch below, features a stunning rendition of the traditional British-Irish folk song, “Sprig of Thyme,” sung by none other than Mulligan herself.

“Far From the Madding Crowd” opens in theaters May 1, 2015.
