David Lynch, always one for an unexpected twist, threw one out on Twitter Friday evening with the announcement that “the rumours are not what they seem” — the much-anticipated return of “Twin Peaks” would be happening on Showtime after all.

When said rumors (fueled, in no small part, by Lynch’s own tweets) began last March, they included discussion that Lynch was asking for a budget for the show beyond what Showtime was willing to pay. 

However, Showtime never officially announced that Lynch was leaving the project, instead releasing a statement that:

We were saddened to read David Lynch’s statement today since we believed we were working towards solutions with David and his reps on the few remaining deal points. SHOWTIME also loves the world of Twin Peaks and we continue to hold out hope that we can bring it back in all its glory with both of its extraordinary creators, David Lynch and Mark Frost, at its helm. 

Lynch’s Twitter statement above, backed up by his official Facebook account, seems to indicate that whatever conflict was in play, it’s been resolved. 

We’ll update this post with any official word from Showtime when it comes, but one thing we know for sure: If the show is half as interesting as the drama around its creation, we’ll be glued to our sets in 2016.
