RADiUS has announced the acquisition of North American rights to Richard LaGravenese’s film adaptation of the off-Broadway musical “The Last Five Years.”
“The Last Five Years” stars Anna Kendrick, who showed off her vocal chops in “Pitch Perfect” and will do so again this winter in Rob Marshall’s “Into the Woods,” as well as Jeremy Jordan, who has made a name for himself starring in the stage adaptation of the cult musical film “Newsies,” and is one of our 13 actors to watch out for in Toronto.

The story follows Jaime (Jordan), an up and coming novelist, and Cathy (Kendrick), an aspiring actress, on the journey of their five year relationship. But there’s an unexpected twist: Jaime’s side of the story is told in chronological order; his songs moving linearly through time. Cathy’s, however, moves backwards — her side of the story is told from the end of their relationship to the beginning.
“What started as the tiniest spark of an idea fifteen years has now blossomed into this miracle of a movie that gets so deeply and honestly into the souls of the characters I created,” said “The Last Five Years” composer Jason Robert Brown. “I couldn’t be happier with what Richard, Anna and Jeremy have brought to life, and I couldn’t be happier that it’s found a home.”
RADiUS co-presidents Tom Quinn and Jason Janego added that “The Last Five Years” is “for the romantic of heart; a love story that delivers across the board. Richard has done an extraordinary job with Jason Robert Brown’s music and lyrics. Anna Kendrick continues to impress – what a voice! And Jeremy Jordan is bound for stardom. Those familiar with the show will be thrilled with the faithful adaptation and audiences everywhere are in for a real treat.”
Naturally, RADiUS has planned a release for Valentine’s Day of 2015.
