The first teaser trailer for Cary Fukunaga‘s “Beasts of No Nation” depicted a harrowing moment from the film that is almost too hard to watch, and the new full-length trailer above is just as rigorous and emotionally intense.

Based on the novel by Nigerian author Uzodinma Iweala, “Beasts” is set in an unspecified African country and stars Idris Elba as a ruthless war lord who takes in a young boy, Agu (newcomer Abraham Attah), and trains him to become a child solider after his family is murdered.

The drama earned considerable praise for its director and lead performances after its Venice Film Festival world premiere earlier this week, and it will next stop at Telluride, TIFF and London in hopes of building awards buzz. “Beasts of No Nation” hits select Landmark theaters and Netflix on October 16.
