‘Coco’ Cast, Plot Details Announced: Gael García Bernal and Benjamin Bratt to Lead Pixar’s Day of the Dead Story
“Coco” was first announced in 2012, but little concrete information about the upcoming Pixar project has come to light in the four years since. That changed today with news of who will be voicing the Day of the Dead–themed film: Benjamin Bratt, Gael García Bernal and newcomer Anthony Gonzalez. Entertainment Weekly first shared the news.

Gonzalez will play the film’s protagonist, a 12-year-old boy named Miguel who aspires to be a musician — an unlikely career path for a kid from a family of shoemakers in a small Mexican village. His fixation on a late, great singer named Ernesto de la Cruz (Bratt) eventually leads him to the underworld, as tends to be the case in these situations; Bernal, meanwhile, will play a helpful spirit Miguel meets during his chthonic adventure.

“It was important to us from day one that we had an all-Latino cast,” director Lee Unkrich tells EW. “It focused us, and we ended up with a fantastic mix of people — some from Mexico and some from Los Angeles.” “Coco” is due in theaters on November 22, 2017.
