July's "Future" Among Initial 2011 Berlinale Competition Titles Revealed

The Berlin International Film Festival unveiled the first eight titles screening in its competition section, including American filmmaker Miranda July’s “The Future,” which was recently added to the Sundance lineup and the world premiere of Victoria Mahoney’s “Yelling to the Sky” with Zoë Kravitz, Gabourey Sidibe and Tim Blake Nelson. In addition to the previously announced opening film “True Grit” by Joel and Ethan Coen (screening out of competition) another seven productions and co-productions have been selected. The titles in this initial selection includes work from Turkey, the Netherlands, Israel, the United Kingdom, Germany, France and the USA.

“In 2011 we’ll once again be cooperating closely with the Sundance Film Festival not only at the European Film Market but also in the Official Programme,” commented Berlinale Director Dieter Kosslick in a statement. “To offer independent films an opportunity to be perceived on a grand scale, we are, in the case of US-American director Miranda July, opening up the competition for an extraordinary German-American co-production that will run out of competition in the Premieres section at Sundance.”
