‘Black-ish’ Parodied ‘Get Out’ With A Trip to the Sunken Place, and Jordan Peele Loved Every Second Of It

"Black-ish just did the best 'Get Out' bit I’ve seen so far," Peele said after the ABC sitcom episode took a trip to the Sunken Place.

Black-ish” creator Kenya Barris tipped his hat to the Oscar-winning “Get Out” during the March 13 episode of his hit ABC sitcom. Just before the first commercial break in the fifteenth episode of Season 4, titled “R-E-S-P-E-C-T,” the show took a trip to the Sunken Place after Bow (Tracee Ellis Ross) taunted Dre (Anthony Anderson) with the thought of their daughter having sex in college.

The episode’s homage to “Get Out” was incredibly well done, with the special effect of Anderson falling into a black void being identical to that of the film. Other reference points include Bow channeling Catherine Keener’s hypnotist by stirring a spoon into a tea cup, an extreme close-up of Dre with tears dripping down his cheeks, and the image of Dre falling deeper into the Sunken Place with a projection of Bow in a screen in front of him.

Jordan Peele quickly took to social media after the parody aired and praised the “Black-ish” team for putting their own stamp on “Get Out.” According to Peele, “‘Black-ish just did the best ‘Get Out’ bit I’ve seen so far. Loved it.”

“Black-ish” isn’t the only show paying its respects to “Get Out” this season. The second episode of Donald Glover’s FX series “Atlanta” included a cutaway gag that referenced Peele’s social-thriller. You can watch the “Black-ish” episode featuring the Sunken Place on Hulu or on ABC Go.

“Black-ish” airs Tuesdays at 9pm ET on ABC.
