Rejoice, Wig Fans! 'The Americans' Renewed Season 4 FX

The Jennings’ mission will go on for at least one more year. FX announced today it has renewed its critical darling “The Americans” for Season 4, ending any speculation that the ratings and lack of awards traction could spell doom for the undeniably excellent series.

Joe Weisberg and Joel Fields’ period spy thriller will return in 2016 with 13 new hour-long episodes. Matthew Rhys, Keri Russell, Noah Emmerich and a lengthy list of standout supporting players — including Frank Langella and Annet Mahendru — make up the cast of this under-rated (literally) drama.

Despite dipping slightly in the key demo (where it’s down 4 percent against Season 2 in Live+7 ratings) and overall viewership (down 6 percent), “The Americans” is a respected staple of a network looking to compete with the very best originals departments out there. It’s also seen long-term growth in DVR viewing, where the Season 3 viewership continues to grow compared to past seasons, presumably from binge-watchers.

“The Americans” Season 3 finale airs April 22. Check out our weekly episode reviews for more analysis and information, as well as our Emmys predictions pages for the series’ odds at breaking into the race.
