The Telluride Film Festival

It’s the calm before the fall movie storm: Next week, the Telluride Film Festival will kick off serious awards season prognostication, and it will only intensify with the Toronto International Film Festival the following week. But Telluride doesn’t announce its lineup in advance, so we’re left speculating about various possibilities and how they could impact a very open-ended fall.

That’s the starting point for this week’s episode of Screen Talk, as Eric Kohn and Anne Thompson dig through some Telluride possibilities and consider their impact. But that’s not all: The pair also revisit the ongoing scandal surrounding Nate Parker and “The Birth of a Nation,” before debating a whole bunch of new releases — some better than others.
