Critics are hailing “Dear White People,” which won the 2014 Sundance Film Festival’s Special Jury Award for Breakthrough Talent, as a smart, incisive  and funny look at African-American students struggling to fit into a school rife with racial tension.
To see why, check out this clip titled “You Can’t Eat Here,” which documents the power struggle between Samantha White (Tessa Thompson), the acid-tongued leader of an all-black residence hall, and self-aggrandizing white magazine editor Troy Fairbanks (Brandon P. Bell). The film will be released by Lionsgate and Roadside Attractions on October 17.
