5 Horror Indies to Watch on Xfinity On Demand this Month

With Halloween fast approaching, Xfinity On Demand has a handful of indie horror options to set the mood for this most frightening time of the year. While anticipated features such as “V/H/S Viral” and “The Babadook” will soon make their way to the streaming service, XFinity already has a great selection of horror films from genre masters and newcomers alike. “Horns”
Based on the bestselling novel by Joe Hill, “Horns” is the latest fright fest from director Alexandre Aja, who has previously shown an affinity for disturbing horror in films such as “High Tension” and “The Hill Have Eyes.” Starring Daniel Radcliffe and Juno Temple, the movie focuses on a young man who grows horns overnight, which aid in helping him discover the killer of his girlfriend. “Open Windows“
Jill (Sasha Grey), a famed actress, refuses to meet with Nick (Elijah Wood), a fan who won a date with her in a contest. But when Nick finds a way to stalk his favorite sex symbol from his laptop, an invasion of privacy leads to sinister events that threaten both of their lives. From writer-director Nacho Vigalondo, “Open Windows” is a cyber-horror-thriller perfect for the digital age. Watch it here.
“The ABC’s of Death 2”
The follow-up to 2012’s ambitious anthology film, “The ABC’s of Death 2” is comprised of twenty-six individual chapters with productions spanning from Nigeria to UK to Brazil and everywhere in between. Featuring segments directed by over two dozen of the world’s leading talents in contemporary genre film, including Aharon Keshales, Navot Papushado, Alejandro Brugue and more, the sequel is made up shorts that represent each letter of the alphabet, with directors getting free rein in choosing a word to create a story involving death. Provocative, shocking, funny and at times confrontational, “ABC’s of Death” is another global celebration of next generation genre filmmaking. Watch it here.
“Inner Demons“
Director Seth Grossman’s horror film follows an “Intervention”-style reality show crew that films an episode about a sixteen-year old former A-student who is fighting addiction but may in fact be suffering from something even more destructive: demonic possession. The movie is an inquiry into the truth about her – with symptoms that straddle the disturbing and scary intersection between insanity, addiction and true possession. Watch it here.
“Extraterrestrial”
The fate of the planet is on the line in this action-packed sci-fi thriller when a group of friends are terrorized by an alien invasion. The movie follows April (Brittany Allen), a child of divorce who is dragged back to the vacation cabin she spent fond summers at as a child accompanied by a group of friends. Her trip down memory lane takes a dramatic and terrifying turn when a fireball descends from the sky and explodes in the nearby woods. When the group ventures out toward the crash site and discovers the remnants of a ship from another planet, they find themselves caught in the middle of something bigger and more terrifying than anything they could ever imagine.
