Oh Cannes-ada? Variety Suggests Dolan, Egoyan and Cronenberg All Competition

Variety has suggested that a good dozen titles are basically confirmed for tomorrow’s Cannes Film Festival lineup, including the already largely expected likes of Tommy Lee Jones’ “The Homesman,” Ken Loach’s “Jimmy’s Hall,” Mike Leigh’s “Mr. Turner” and Bennett Miller’s “Foxcatcher.” But in addition to those US and UK titles, the report says that a trio of Canuck titles are in official competition, a mighty feat for the country.

Atom Egoyan and David Cronenberg will both return to Cannes with their films “The Captive” (starring Ryan Reynolds) and “Maps to the Stars” (with Julianne Moore and Robert Pattinson), alongside an official competition first timer in Xavier Dolan, who at 25 years old has already been at Cannes three times with “I Killed My Mother,” “Heartbeats” and “Laurence Anyways,” but has never made it into the top program. Variety says that will change tomorrow. More on that and other titles looking locked or close to it here.
