Donald Glover made a rare appearance on Twitter to somewhat set the record straight over his canceled FX “Deadpool” project. The cable network announced on March 25 that it was axing “Deadpool: The Animated Series” due to “creative differences” between the network, Marvel, and “Atlanta” duo Stephen and Donald Glover.
“Due to creative differences, FX, Donald Glover, Stephen Glover and Marvel Television have agreed to part ways on Marvel’s ‘Deadpool’ animated series, FX will no longer be involved with the project,” the network said in a statement. “FX and Marvel have an ongoing relationship through our partnership on ‘Legion,’ which will continue.”
While Glover has not explained the “creative differences,” he did make note on Twitter that he wasn’t too busy with other projects, implying that he had made time to seriously work on the animated series. Glover then shared a 15-page mock script from the series.
The cover of the screenplay reads “Finale” and the draft includes a very timely “Who bit Beyoncé?” joke. Another line boldly calls out the cancellation: “Do you think they canceled the show because of racism?! Yeah, all the writers were black. The references were pretty black, too”
Glover currently has the second season of “Atlanta” airing on FX. You can read his mock “Deadpool” script in its entirety via the Twitter thread below. IndieWire has reached out for comment from Glover and FX.
