Rose McGowan Reveals She Was Raped By A Hollywood Executive
Actress, director and activist Rose McGowan joined in on the conversation about why women don’t report sexual assault on Friday afternoon with a series of tweets that reveal she was raped by a top Hollywood executive.
“A (female) criminal attorney said because I’d done a sex scene in a film I would never win against the studio head,” McGowan tweeted, using the trending hashtag #WhyWomenDontReport. “It’s been an open secret in Hollywood/media and they shamed me while adulating my rapist,” she continued, adding that her ex sold their movie to her rapist for distribution. “It is time for some goddamned honesty in this world.”

Her tweets come after several women have accused presidential candidate Donald Trump of sexual assault. McGowan has always been very vocal about feminist issues and being mistreated in the past, and has called out Trump for “poisoning humanity” and “stressing most of the nation out to the point of a diagnosable sickness.”
Since she published her tweets, McGowan has made no other statements regarding the rape.

During IndieWire’s recent “I Am Indie” panel at the New York Film Festival, McGowan also spoke out about the abuse she’s faced in Hollywood.
“The whole time, my entire career, I was very uncomfortable. I felt like I was wearing wet pants…I couldn’t understand what was wrong with my life and everybody was telling me how lucky I was,” she explained. “I couldn’t understand why I was that lucky because my life, on the other side of the camera, was very lonely and very difficult. I was working with a lot of very misogynistic men that were nasty. I didn’t have great luck. I had a lot of really abusive directors.”
