Seth Rogen’s dark comedy “Sausage Party” hits theaters this weekend. The animated film tells the story of grocery store food finding out what happens to them in the real world where they are chopped up, boiled and cooked so they can be eaten by people. The film is rated R but it was first categorized as NC-17 by the MPAA because of an eight-minute food orgy scene.

Rogen sat down with Howard Stern to discuss the film and what he had to cut to get the rating he wanted.

“There is a very sexually charged scene in the film, there is a pita bread with a scrotum,” he told Stern, adding that the lunch meat were involved in an orgy. “We probably added six things into the orgy that we were like, ‘OK, these are like our sacrificial lambs.’”

Surprised by how little they wanted changed, he explained how they only wanted them to edit the pita bread’s hair from its private parts. “We digitally shaved the pita bread’s ballsack,” he said. “I wish I could have been there, honestly, because I imagine a very heated debate did occur,” Rogen added about the meeting that the MPAA must’ve had to discuss the film’s scene.

Though, one of his other biggest challenges was getting the film made in the first place. Rogen and Evan Goldberg were pumped for the film and thought many people would be bidding for it – which ended up not being the case. After they co-wrote the script and shopped it around, they heard a lot of no’s. That is until Megan Ellison, daughter of Larry Ellison, known for taking up projects many won’t, gave them a chance.
