‘Orphan Black’ Prepares For The End With Two New Videos Shared At Comic-Con
“Orphan Black” is gearing up for its fifth and final season. But before the hit series returns, the cast of the BBC cult sensation checked into Comic-Con 2016 to celebrate its thrilling Season 4, which concluded last month.
The stars from the series were all present on Friday afternoon to talk about the thriller’s success and reminisce on their time together. In attendance were Tatiana Maslany (Sarah and the Leda clones), Jordan Gavaris (Felix), Kristian Bruun (Donnie), Kevin Hanchard (Art), along with co-creators John Fawcett and Graeme Manson, and making her Comic-Con debut was Kathryn Alexandre (Tatiana Maslany’s acting double).
The panel, hosted by Scott Aukerman, treated fans to two special videos, a look back at the show’s haunting moments and a can’t-miss hilarious blooper reel. To add even more excitement to its fifth season, they also announced that one lucky fan will win a walk-on role in the final season.

Looking back at the last four seasons, the first observation from the cast and crew was how many people Maslany has made out with on screen. “I love it!” Maslany said, before trying to remember the exact expression regarding “notches in her belt.”
Alexandre also broke down the process of playing Maslany’s clone double, explaining that they try to make sure that when filming a clone scene, Maslany will play the more predominant clone first so that her acting choices will guide the action.
Gavaris spoke passionately about the fact that in Season 4, Felix finally got a relationship beyond Sarah — and that Felix’s new bond with his sister created conflict between him and Sarah. (Fun fact learned: The throwing of mashed potatoes was, according to the producers, originally meant to be a “Animal House”-scale food fight, but production limitations kept making it smaller and smaller.)
Some fun moments learned from the panel: The fight scene which ended at the end of Season 4 was one of the toughest scenes yet for Maslany and Alexandre. “Easily our biggest clone-on-clone smackdown,” the producers declared.
Aukerman also asked Maslany to show off her improv skills in character with the rest of the cast — which led to Maslany, as Allison, declaring her support for Trump. “Nobody supports me on this, she exclaimed!”
According to Fawcett, the focus of Season 5 is “we all want answers — and see a little bit more of Rachel vs. Sarah.” The crowd booed at Aukerman’s reminder that Season 5 will be the last, but the producers responded by saying that they “ought to” have a Christmas special, teasing the idea of “A Very Helena Christmas.”
But as Manson said: “We always had five seasons in mind — we don’t want to get soft in the middle. I think it’s cooler to cancel yourselves than to get canceled.”
Fawcett and Manson know what the ending is, dropping one detail for the final episode be that: “we want 12 clones in one scene.”
Brainstorming the worst line that could possibly be used to end the show, Bruun stepped up to the plate: “This truly was… a Game of Clones.”
Since its debut in 2013, “Orphan Black” has been widely acclaimed by critics and audiences. The past four seasons have been a phenomenal adventure that has taken fans on plenty of twists and turns. Watch the Comic-Con exclusive videos below. The 10-episode fifth season will return April, 2017.
