Tribeca Film Nabs Jason Schwartzman and Elisabeth Moss Comedy ‘Listen Up Philip’

Tribeca Film has acquired North American rights to writer-director Alex Ross Perry‘s third feature, “Listen Up Philip,” which premiered at Sundance earlier this year. Jason Schwartzman stars as Philip — a disillusioned writer on the verge of releasing his second novel. When Philip’s idol, a writer by the name of Ike Zimmerman, offers him the chance to stay at his summer home, Philip jumps at the chance to escape the city — and his girlfriend, Ashley (played by Elisabeth Moss) — in order to focus on himself.
Tribeca Enterprises Chief Creative Officer Geoff Gilmore called the film “a revelation by a uniquely gifted filmmaker,” noting in particular how the film is “driven by a superbly acidic performance by Jason Schwartzman and equally fuelled by its allusions to and by inspiration from Philip Roth.”
Perry added: “In this day and age, distribution for independent films is a real broken system, probably worse than it has ever been. So it is incredibly exciting to be working with people who actually care not only about ‘movies’ and ‘stories’ but about honest to god Cinema, I mean serious Cinema that leaves audiences heavier.”
“Listen Up Philip” opens theatrically on October 17th and will be made available on VOD platforms on October 21st. You can watch the trailer here.
